American Airlines adds Amsterdam and Nice to New York-JFK
American Airlines is launching ten nonstop routes from New York-JFK to Europe for summer 2027, including new services to Amsterdam and Nice.

American Airlines is operating its most ambitious transatlantic schedule ever this quarter. According to scheduled data from aviation analytics provider Cirium, the airline has scheduled over 6,500 one-way flights to Europe, surpassing its pre-pandemic peak.
Much of this growth is centered at its Philadelphia and Dallas/Fort Worth hubs. John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York is also set for significant expansion next year, with American adding more nonstop services to Europe.
New Routes to Amsterdam and Nice
American Airlines currently flies from JFK to eight European cities. Next summer, it will add two more destinations, taking its JFK-Europe network to ten cities. The carrier will launch nonstop flights to Amsterdam in March 2027, followed by service to Nice starting in May.
Both new routes will be operated by Airbus A321XLR aircraft. Amsterdam is an established market for American, which already serves the Dutch capital from other parts of its network. The new JFK-Amsterdam service will complement the airline's existing seasonal flights from Dallas/Fort Worth and year-round service from Philadelphia. Nice will similarly build on American's existing presence in southern France, complementing its Philadelphia-Nice route.
London Service Increases to Four Daily Flights
Also, from March 28, 2027, American is reintroducing a fourth daily flight between New York-JFK and London Heathrow Airport. The airline had reduced the route to three daily flights during the prior winter schedule while it carried out cabin retrofits on its 777-300ER aircraft.
The additional flight will be operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner featuring the carrier's Flagship Suite seats. The reintroduced service, flight AA142 from JFK to London and AA141 for the return, is scheduled with specific departure and arrival times.
| Route | Flight Number | Departure | Arrival |
|---|---|---|---|
| JFK to London Heathrow (LHR) | AA142 | 8:50 AM | 9:00 PM |
| London Heathrow (LHR) to JFK | AA141 | 6:05 PM | 9:05 PM |
Following the start of this extra service, American says its joint venture with British Airways will offer up to 14 daily flights between New York and London. American carries over 570,000 round-trip passengers annually on the JFK-London Heathrow route, which has an average seat load factor of 78%.
A Growing Presence at JFK
American is now the second-largest airline at JFK for European departures. It has 403 European departures planned for July 2027. This will be the airline's highest level of European departures from the airport since 2017.
The modern era of American's JFK-Europe network began in July 1991 with the launch of passenger service to London Heathrow. The network expanded over the following two decades to include destinations like Budapest and Zurich before contracting sharply during the COVID-19 pandemic. The recovery focused on restoring core services to cities like Paris, Madrid, and Rome, which form the core of the network today.
