British Airways is increasing its flight frequencies to several destinations in Latin America, Africa, and the Caribbean for the 2027 summer season. The changes include new dedicated routes and expanded year-round service, with award seats bookable using Avios points.

Route Changes for Summer 2027

The airline's summer 2027 schedule, which runs from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October, features several key adjustments. Buenos Aires will shift to a dedicated daily non-stop service starting March 28, which will then continue onward to Santiago de Chile. This replaces a previous routing that included a layover in Rio de Janeiro.

Santiago de Chile will gain a new daily one-stop service via Buenos Aires from March 28. This is in addition to its existing non-stop service, which operates three times per week. Rio de Janeiro will return to a dedicated daily service with no onward connections from the same date.

Expanded and Extended Services

Other notable changes include making the San José, Costa Rica route a year-round service instead of winter-only. It will maintain three flights per week through the summer of 2027.

DestinationChange for Summer 2027
Cape TownIncreases from 7 to 10 flights per week
Las VegasIncreases from 13 to 14 flights per week
London Gatwick to BarbadosService extended through summer, including onward tags to Grenada, Guyana, and Tobago
London Gatwick to St LuciaBecomes a dedicated service with no onward connections from March 28

Avios Reward Seat Availability

Avios redemption seats for the new and expanded flights are becoming available for booking. British Airways guarantees a minimum number of reward seats on each flight, though the full complement may not be loaded onto its website immediately.

The airline commits to at least four Club World (business class), two World Traveller Plus (premium economy), and eight World Traveller (economy) award seats per flight. There is a caveat for connected services. On a flight like London to Buenos Aires that continues to Santiago, reward seats are typically split between the two segments. This could mean only two Club World seats are visible for the London to Buenos Aires leg, with the other two allocated for travel through to Santiago.

Head for Points notes that not all flights were fully loaded for booking at the time of its report. The publication advised travellers to check for availability as the new schedule is implemented.
