The airline’s choice of flight number echoes Lufthansa’s playful LH2222 on the Munich-to-Toulouse route. United’s gate agents will announce the new service as “UA two, two, two, to Toulouse,” a nod to the humor that occasionally surfaces in German aviation.
United’s 2027 expansion will see the carrier add the following cities: Toulouse, Luxembourg, Marseille, Ibiza, Valencia, Terceira, Ljubljana, Olbia, Catania, and Okinawa. The new routes will be launched from four U.S. hubs: Washington Dulles, Newark, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, with daily or multi-weekly frequencies.
The airline will deploy a mix of aircraft to make the new routes viable. From Newark, the Airbus A321XLR will serve Luxembourg, Toulouse, Ibiza, Valencia, and Marseille. Terceira in the Azores will be served by a Boeing 737-MAX-8. Ljubljana, Olbia, and Catania will be served by Boeing 767s, while a Boeing 777-200 will launch a new route to Okinawa from San Francisco with three weekly services.

United’s new service to Ibiza is seen as a major win for the island’s government and tourism promotion agency, which had reportedly been in talks with the airline to secure non-stop flights from the United States. The island will now receive four summer seasonal flights per week from Newark, up from the single weekly service it had previously considered.
