Delta Air Lines will launch daily nonstop service from Austin to Paris on March 27, 2027. The airline will use an Airbus A330-900neo, making it the only US carrier offering a direct flight from Austin to Europe.

Joe Esposito, Delta's Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, called the launch "a defining milestone." He linked it to the airline's broader investment in Central Texas. British Airways, KLM, and Lufthansa already fly from Austin to London, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt, but no US airline has operated a transatlantic route from the airport until now.

Delta's New Austin-Paris Service Details

The Airbus A330-900neo configured for the route will feature four cabin classes. Passengers connecting in Paris can access nearly 70 destinations across Europe, India, and Africa through Delta's joint venture with Air France-KLM.

Combined with KLM's existing Amsterdam service, the Delta-Air France-KLM partnership will offer up to ten weekly nonstop flights between Austin and Europe during peak summer. Austin Mayor Kirk Watson said the route brings the city closer to Paris, which he described as united by a spirit of culture and creativity.

A Major Expansion at Austin-Bergstrom

The Paris flight is one component of a significant Delta build-up in Austin. By summer 2027, Delta plans to operate more than 70 peak-day departures from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport across roughly 30 destinations. This is up from 28 peak-day departures in 2019.

The airline currently employs over 900 people in the Austin area and recently opened a base for more than 100 flight attendants at the airport. Delta also operates a Sky Club lounge in Austin and has plans for a second, larger lounge as part of a future terminal expansion. The airline has been allocated 15 gates in the planned Concourse A.

Three other route changes accompany the Paris launch. Delta will begin new daily service from Austin to San Diego on April 12, 2027, using an Airbus A319. Its seasonal Austin to Cancun service will become year-round. The Austin to San Jose route, launching in October 2026, will add a second daily frequency starting in April 2027.

A Strategy for Secondary Cities

Delta is applying a strategy it previously used in Tampa, Florida. There, it launched year-round A330-900neo service to Amsterdam before signing a 20-year anchor lease at the airport's new $1.528 billion terminal. In both Austin and Tampa, Delta is introducing widebody international service from mid-size US airports that previously had limited or no nonstop European options from a US carrier.

The strategy identifies cities with growing populations and strong corporate travel bases. Austin's technology sector generates demand for European destinations like Paris. The A330-900neo's operating economics make such routes viable where a larger widebody aircraft might not be profitable.

If the Austin-Paris route performs well, Delta has the fleet and network in place to potentially add a second European destination from the city. The airline's investment in local staffing and airport infrastructure signals a long-term commitment beyond a seasonal schedule.

United Airlines is pursuing a parallel strategy with a different aircraft. It recently announced a major international expansion for summer 2027, centered on the Airbus A321XLR for serving secondary European cities. United CEO Scott Kirby described Newark as "the best Atlantic gateway in the country." Both carriers are targeting underserved markets, with Delta using widebodies from growing US cities and United using narrowbodies from its established hubs.
