British Airways Tier Points
British Airways now shows tier point earning on ba.com, while Virgin Trains Ticketing offers special deals

British Airways has started showing how many tier points members will earn when booking a flight on ba.com. According to the airline, this change is intended to make it easier for members to understand the loyalty scheme, which was restructured and renamed as The British Airways Club in 2025.
Under the new system, members receive 1 tier point per £1 spent, but this is calculated on the base fare and not the total paid, excluding airport charges and government taxes. The website now highlights the number of Avios and tier points that will be earned during the booking process, but members still need to add bonus tier points to the base tier points and write down the outbound points before searching for the inbound, as the combined total is not shown before payment.
Tier Point Earning Issues Despite the new functionality, British
Airways does not guarantee that the figure shown during booking is what members will receive, and some readers have reported issues with the actual tier points posted failing to match the number shown during booking, particularly with connecting flights, flights paid with e-vouchers, and flights part-paid with Avios. Bonus points, which vary by ticket flexibility, can also post incorrectly.
Virgin Trains Ticketing Offers
In other news, Virgin Trains Ticketing is offering 2,000 bonus Virgin Points when you buy a Railcard, worth £10 off a future train ticket or redeemable for other Virgin Points rewards, including flights. To be eligible, you need to be 18 years old to join Virgin Red, and the Railcard must be stored inside the Virgin Trains Ticketing app. The offer ends on 20th September.
Double Points Promotion
To run alongside this offer, Virgin Trains Ticketing has launched a 'double points' promotion, where you will earn 6 Virgin Points per £1 for all train tickets booked by 20th September. The app also automatically offers split ticketing when available, which can lead to extra savings. The promotion details are available on the home page of the Virgin Trains Ticketing app.
The Virgin Trains Ticketing offers can be compared as follows:
