Iberia opens new Sorolla Emerald Lounge for BA Gold members
Iberia has officially opened its new Sorolla Emerald Lounge in Madrid's Terminal 4, designed for top-tier oneworld alliance members.

Iberia has launched a first-class lounge for its top-tier customers at Madrid's Barajas Airport, despite not operating a first-class cabin on its aircraft. The Sorolla Emerald Lounge officially opened on Wednesday after a soft launch over the preceding months.
The lounge is accessible to oneworld alliance Emerald status members, such as British Airways Gold cardholders. It is located post-security in the main Terminal 4 building and is designed primarily for Schengen-area flights, though passengers departing from the non-Schengen satellite terminal, T4S, can also use it.
Lounge Design and Capacity
Architect Richard Rogers's iconic undulating roof defines the space. The lounge covers 800 square metres and can accommodate 128 guests. Half-height wooden walls break up the area, providing privacy while maintaining an open feel.
Seating includes private booths along the windows, inspired by business class suites, equipped with individual lamps, European power sockets, and USB ports. The central area features furniture by award-winning designer Patricia Urquiola, with cream and burgundy colours dominant. Charging sockets are embedded in the floor.
Food, Drink, and Amenities
A 360-degree bar serves coffee, cocktails, and Gosset Grande Reserve champagne. The dining area, managed by luxury caterer DO&CO, provides an all-day tapas menu and a range of desserts.
Shower facilities feature cream tiles and stainless steel basins. Two sleep suites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Customer Feedback and Future Plans
During the soft opening, customer feedback was highly positive. Iberia's Chief Customer Officer, Beatriz Guillen, stated that initial ratings were exceptionally high. "We have the top, top, top qualifications compared to every other lounge," Guillen said. "The service has a 9.9 out of 10. The food has a 9.8 out of 10."
Discussions are underway with airport operator Aena to potentially expand the Emerald lounge concept to the T4S satellite terminal, where long-haul flights depart. Guillen indicated that space is the primary constraint, but the airline is exploring creative solutions, including a potential "pop-up" social club in the existing Velasquez lounge space. The airline is also evaluating upgrades for its other lounges, such as the one in Buenos Aires, though the current focus remains on Madrid.
FlyerTalk forum responses have also been extremely positive about the new facility.
