Earning miles and tier points

Aer Lingus is not part of the oneworld alliance. Passengers cannot credit flights with an EI code to oneworld frequent flyer programs like Qatar Airways Privilege Club.

They can, however, credit these flights to The British Airways Club. The report states that discounted business class fares typically earn Avios based on 150% of miles flown. They also earn British Airways tier points based on 25% of miles flown, depending on the booking class.

Crediting to Aer Lingus's own AerClub program is another option. That program awards Avios based on the amount spent. For these sale fares, the report suggests The British Airways Club might be the better choice for earning. As a wild card, flights can also be credited to a United Airlines MileagePlus account to earn Star Alliance miles.

Status benefits for British Airways elites

Elite members of The British Airways Club now receive limited benefits when flying Aer Lingus. To get them, members must add their British Airways Executive Club number to the booking.

Bronze members receive priority check-in for everyone on the booking, using the Premium or Business Class area. They also get priority boarding for all passengers on the reservation.

Silver and Gold members receive those same priority check-in and boarding benefits. They also get priority security for themselves plus one guest at selected airports. Lounge access for the member plus one is provided on transatlantic routes. An extra baggage allowance applies.

Silver members get one additional 23kg bag on Aer Lingus-operated economy flights, excluding EI Saver Fares. Gold members get one additional 23kg bag in any cabin, also excluding EI Saver Fares. For EI Business class, Gold members are allowed an additional piece up to 32kg, though the combined weight must not exceed 96kg.

Cabin upgrades and booking tips

The report notes that Aer Lingus has an 'upgraded but not brand new' business class cabin coming soon. The current 2x2 row configuration will be replaced. Booking early on non-upgraded aircraft could allow passengers to select the 'throne' solo seats.

Head for Points advises checking its latest Aer Lingus business class reviews for the A321LR, A321XLR, and A330. Travelers can search for dates and routes directly on the Aer Lingus website.

The sale report was credited to Luxury Flight Club.
